What is Post Character Counter?
The Post Character Counter tracks your text length against the character limits of every major social platform in real time. Switch between Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube to instantly see how much room you have left — or how far over you are.
Each platform enforces different limits: Twitter/X caps standard posts at 280 characters, LinkedIn allows up to 3,000, Instagram captions up to 2,200, Facebook posts up to 63,206, and YouTube titles at 100 characters. The counter updates live as you type.
Everything runs in your browser — your text is never sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
Standard Twitter/X accounts are limited to 280 characters per post. Twitter Blue (now X Premium) subscribers can post longer content, but 280 is the standard.
LinkedIn posts are limited to 3,000 characters. Articles have a much higher limit, but status updates cap at 3,000.
Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters, but only the first 125 characters show without tapping 'more'.
Emojis are counted as characters. On Twitter/X, most emojis count as 2 characters due to Unicode encoding. This tool counts emoji as their visible character count.
